Dholak

Dholak
Acrylic colours on 50x50 cm canvas.

The Dholak is mainly a folk instrument, lacking the exact tuning and playing techniques of the tabla or the Pakhawaj. The vibrations create a bass sound and lend a different hue to the music. It is widely used in Indian film music and also in traditional weddings among some communities in India.

Shakti

Shakti:
The divine feminine power
Acrylic colours on 50x50 cm canvas

Shakti ("power, ability, strength, might, effort, energy, capability"), is the primordial cosmic energy and represents the dynamic forces that are thought to move through the entire universe in Hinduism.

Shakti is the concept or personification of divine feminine creative power, sometimes referred to as "The Great Divine Mother" in Hinduism. On the earthly plane, Shakti most actively manifests through female embodiment and creativity/fertility. It is believed that Shakti is both responsible for creation and the agent of all change. Shakti is cosmic existence as well as liberation.

Ganesha

Ganesha is truly a combination of both human and animal parts and thereby symbolizes life or being in its diverse aspects. His form also symbolizes the combination of all five elements. It has both symmetrical and asymmetrical aspects. Together they represent fullness. They also reflect the duality of perfection and imperfection as well as the transcendental and the immanent aspects of our creation.

Meera

Meera
Acrylic colours on 50x50 cm canvas

Meera, also known as Meera Bai or Mirabai (1498-1546) was a Hindu mystic poet and devotee of Krishna God. Most legends about Meera mention her fearless disregard for social and family conventions, her devotion to god Krishna, her treating Krishna as her husband, and she being persecuted by her in-laws for her religious devotion.
Thousands of devotional poems in passionate praise of Lord Krishna are attributed to Meera in the Indian tradition, but just a few hundred are believed to be authentic by scholars, and the earliest written records suggest that except for two poems, most were written down only in the 18th century.
What devotion! What divine love for the lord!

Kathakali

Kathakali:The Dancer
Acrylic colours on 40x40 cm canvas

Kathakali is one of the major forms of classical Indian dance. It is a "story play" genre of art, but one distinguished by the elaborately colorful make-up, costumes and face masks that the traditionally male actor-dancers wear. A Kathakali performance, like all classical dance arts of India, synthesizes music, vocal performers, choreography and hand and facial gestures together to express ideas. However, Kathakali differs in that it also incorporates movements from ancient Indian martial arts and athletic traditions of South India. It takes hours to get dressed and the face masks are very heavy. With them on, dancing for hours together requires a lot of strength and skill and devotion towards the art. The traditional themes of the Kathakali are folk mythologies, religious legends and spiritual ideas from the Hindu epics. In modern compositions, Indian Kathakali troupes have included women artists, as well as adapted Western stories and plays such as those by Shakespeare and from Christianity.

Sometimes I wonder, what emotions run behind that face mask and how does a dancer depict so much with just the eyes..

Buddha

Buddha:
Acrylic colours on 30x40 cm canvas

Gautama or Buddha is the primary figure in Buddhism. This figure evokes inner peace, enlightenment and compassion towards fellow beings.
It teaches to appreciate who you are.
You are a BUDDHA too.
You are the best thing that ever appeared on this whole planet. If you believe there is nothing you cannot do with your life, then there IS nothing you cannot do.
To believe that you can do anything is to bring your life in harmony.
He who perceive the greatness of his life is a Buddha. He who doesn't is a fool.
